IDEC: Spatial Data Infrastructure of Catalonia

Locals initiatives

The creation of a Spatial Data Infrastructure is a common task of all public administrations, companies and organizations both public and private professionals and citizens who want to participate. And its scope is universal, as is Internet, even though today organizations that promote and give support to the different levels of territorial and administrative organizations are necessary.

Under the initiative, different levels of government have been forming these organizations throughout Europe, as European Infrastructure (INSPIRE), Spanish (IDEE) and other Member States, the Catalan (IDEC) among other regional initiatives, and various local initiatives, such as in Catalonia, the IDEBarcelona promoted by the Barcelona Provincial Council, the BCN geoportal, promoted by the city council of Barcelona, the IDE Sant Cugat del Valles and others that are in preparation.

The integration of local entities in the SDI network is notorious in Catalonia, thanks to the initiatives promoted by AOC Consortium (eGovernment) in Catalonia or Barcelona Provincial Council, within the province of Barcelona.

IDE Barcelona Link: http://www.diba.es/idebarcelona/default.asp IDEBarcelona is an initiative of the Barcelona Provincial Council to create the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) in the province of Barcelona. The aim is to integrate, via the Internet, geographic information available both at the Provincial Council, and in other provincial agencies.

BCN Geoportal Link: http://www.bcn.cat/geoportal/en/presentacio.html The portal and Web services from the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the City Council to allow municipal territorial information available through the website using the standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).
